Autism Spectrum
Personalized screening tests for metabolites (small molecules) associated with autism spectrum disorder
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a multifaceted neurodevelopmental disorder involving a complex etiology, where a genetic component has been proposed, along with many environmental risk factors. Due to its increasing incidence in the pediatric population and the lack of successful therapeutic treatments, ASD is one of the most enigmatic disorders for medicine. Over the past two decades and more, the link between oxidative stress and ASD has been repeatedly documented. For this reason, the previous hypothesis that reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS and RNS) play an important role in ASD is now a certainty. In addition, more recent studies are investigating the possibility that free radicals promote lipid peroxidation, as well as an increase in other oxidative radical biomarkers. The possibility of new nutritional interventions aimed at neutralizing the production of oxidative radicals in people with ASD is being examined, as well as even the behavioral abnormalities, perhaps can be improved after interventions that use antioxidants as supplements or included in food.
In addition, recent review studies offer a detailed investigation of micronutrient levels in children on the autism spectrum and how they compare to those of the general population. Studies highlight the increased incidence of several vitamins and minerals, which could potentially be related to factors such as dietary preferences, gastrointestinal problems often associated with spectrum disorders, and genetic differences that affect nutrient metabolism.
With the latest science and specialized tests, we evaluate the above factors.
Our program includes:
- Personalized Metabolite Analysis: We identify metabolites associated with oxidative stress, gut microbiome, malabsorption and other micronutrient deficiencies.
- Nutritional Supplements: We provide advice on specific supplements to reduce the factors described above.
- Ongoing Support: We continuously monitor emerging biological challenges.
