Science in the Service of Wellness – Fighting Obesity

The FGA Center is conducting an important survey on modern lifestyles and health attracting great interest from the public and we want to thank you for your response. If you want to see the research findings in detail, you can follow the following link: See More

This research is addressed to people over 18 years of age, who anonymously completed the relevant questionnaire. Overall, 48% of participants are male and 52% female from various age groups.

The first results reveal an alarming modern problem: weight gain and obesity. According to the latest World Health Organization (WHO) report, almost six in ten adults (59%) and one in three children (29% of boys and 27% of girls) in Europe are overweight or obese. America maintains the lead in obesity, but Europe follows with alarming rates.

pahysarkia aitia

Greece, unfortunately, is no exception, with rates of overweight and obese people, both among adults and children, exceeding the European average. For more information on obesity, visit the FGA Center website ( www.fgacenter.gr/services/pahisarkia/ ).

About wellness

The Secret to Happiness: Discovering the Code of Well-Being

According to the World Health Organization, wellness is not simply the absence of disease or infirmity, but a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being.

The broader definition of well-being points out that it can be understood as how people feel and function both individually and socially, and how they evaluate their lives as a whole. This definition highlights the complexity of well-being, beyond simple categories of feelings and behavior. In our research, we look at the various elements that make up well-being, including aspects such as physical and emotional well-being.

Physical well-being

Physical wellness is a pillar of healthy living as it refers to the state of our physical health. It includes aspects such as diet , proper exercise , sleeping hours and overall fitness level . Maintaining this well-being is vital to preventing chronic disease and maintaining health. The FGA Center recently carried out major research to examine how modern lifestyles affect our health.

This survey has attracted a lot of interest from the public and we want to thank you for your response. If you want to see the research findings in detail, you can follow the following link: https://www.fgacenter.gr/erevna-gia-ton-sygchrono-tropo-zois-kai-tin-ygeia/

Emotional well-being

Emotional well-being is our “superpower” to face the world with a smile! It refers to our ability to cope with stress and manage our emotions effectively. It includes aspects such as level of happiness, resilience and sense of purpose.

What sticks? For many of us, we’re almost driven by stress, so we often look to the fridge for solutions – say the 59% who have an increased tendency to snack. When our minds are upset, the impact isn’t just emotional: the vast majority of us experience various physical problems, from bloating to musculoskeletal pain. And when 34% feel they are “not themselves”, then emotional well-being needs to be made a priority.

Happiness and well-being is not just a list of good habits. It is like a magical mixture that makes the body and soul to be in balance! The secret is in the right distribution: a dose of physical exercise, a portion of a balanced diet and a little relaxation. The results lead us to focus on stress and anxiety, which are a hallmark of modern man .

stress 1
sleep disorder

When we experience an intense stressful situation, our body goes into “survival” mode! Stress hormones flood our bodies, readying us for action. A stressful situation can bring about significant physiological changes, with the body reacting to stress with the “fight or flight” mechanism.

Think of it as a switch that activates our body to face danger or avoid it. Of course, many times, this reaction is also activated for less dangerous reasons, such as daily traffic jams or pressure at work.

The FGA Center helps us understand this reaction and how we can best manage it. Go to www.fgacenter.gr for more!

Gut Microbiome

Gut Microbiome and Healthy Lifestyle: The Unseen Heroes of Our Wellness!

In a world where our daily life is full of stress, insufficient sleep and food with lots of preservatives, a complex of microorganisms is fighting heroically for our health: the intestinal microbiome!

Our recent research, through a questionnaire, from the FGA center highlights a serious problem of the modern lifestyle: bowel disorders. Gas, bloating, constipation – all these symptoms are a common denominator for many of us – and the percentage is alarming: 39.13% report bloating, while 40% experience other bowel disorders. Of course, the symptoms vary and differ depending on the person and the type of disorder.

This survey has attracted a lot of interest from the public and we want to thank you for your response. If you want to see the research findings in detail, you can follow the following link: https://www.fgacenter.gr/erevna-gia-ton-sygchrono-tropo-zois-kai-tin-ygeia/

But don’t worry! Science has revealed that the solution may lie in the careful care of the gut microbiome. Studies show that a balanced diet, rich in fruits and vegetables, can contribute to gut health. From the proper functioning of the immune system to our mood and mental health, from endocrine disorders to autoimmune diseases and skin diseases, the gut microbiome and its balance are crucial.

The gut microbiome is a world of microorganisms that lurks deep in our gastrointestinal tract, creating an entire ecosystem that affects every aspect of our health. Each person carries between 300 and 5000 different types of microorganisms, which interact with their body every day.

Fluctuations in our gut microbiome may be sending us signals in ways we never imagined. From bloating and constipation to diarrhea and heartburn, these symptoms can highlight imbalances in our gut world. When there is the necessary balance we do not face problems in digesting food or removing unnecessary components.

But modern life, full of stress, insufficient sleep, and processed foods, along with the use of antibiotics and other drugs, can upset this delicate balance. And the effects are many and varied: from the brain to the heart, from the immune system to the skin, and from weight to hormone levels. Even our ability to absorb nutrients can be affected.

The Metabolic Syndrome

The Metabolic Syndrome: From Mystery to Solution for a Healthy Life

The FGA Center recently announced the results of a major survey on modern lifestyles and health. What did he discover? That a mysterious problem, metabolic syndrome, affects many of us without even knowing it. With 52.99% of participants having an increased BMI and 59.06% noticing easy weight gain, the effects of metabolic syndrome are more common than we think.

This survey has attracted a lot of interest from the public and we want to thank you for your response. If you want to see the research findings in detail, you can follow the following link: https://www.fgacenter.gr/erevna-gia-ton-sygchrono-tropo-zois-kai-tin-ygeia/

The research gathered data from hundreds of participants over the age of 18, who responded anonymously to the relevant questionnaire. With 48% men and 52% women, the survey covered a wide range of age groups.

Learn more about metabolic syndrome at the following link https://www.fgacenter.gr/services/metavoliko-syndromo/ .

But what is metabolic syndrome? It is not just one disease, but a collection of factors that increase the risk of developing diseases. And many of us don’t even realize we’re in it! It usually concerns people with an increased waist circumference or increased body weight (increased Body Mass Index, BMI) and is framed by a sedentary lifestyle and a casual and usually unbalanced diet.

Indicative of the inability to understand whether we are in metabolic syndrome, is the fact, according to our results, that while 79.33% of respondents declare that they do not have metabolic syndrome:

Statistics

Elevated Body Mass Index (BMI) Statistics

Regarding another risk factor, the lack of exercise

  • 47 % of respondents do not exercise at all

  • 46 % a little (from 1 to 3 times a week).

Although the exact etiology of metabolic syndrome is still unclear, scientists have discovered some interesting facts. Many studies have shown that there is a close relationship between metabolic syndrome and many other factors. These include insulin resistance, obesity, oxidative stress, chronic microinflammation, and even the gut microbiome.

You can think of metabolic syndrome as a puzzle, with each of these factors being a piece. And the more pieces are in place, the clearer the shape of the problem becomes. It is the combination of these factors that helps us understand why so many face this challenge.

At the FGA center, through specialized analyzes and advice ( https://www.fgacenter.gr/services/metavoliko-syndromo/ ), we try to address the causes of this problem, promoting a healthy and balanced life.

With instructions that are adapted to each case, we examine all the factors described above, so that with the appropriate lifestyle interventions and special case-by-case supplements, we can reduce these factors and the metabolic syndrome, with the aim of leading to a change in lifestyle, better quality of life and ultimately “well-being”.
